Football Governance

Indigo is leading football governance in the UK

The next few seasons of English football will be a time of change for the game. Beyond the promotions, relegations, player transfers and titles that every season brings, the new Independent Football Regulator (IFR) will begin to unroll its new regulatory regime, sparking transformation at club boards.

We understand how good governance builds strategic value and stronger football foundations, and are ready to support clubs at all levels of the football pyramid successfully steer their way through the new regime.

Services

Owners, directors and senior executive tests

We can work with you in managing the IFR’s owners, directors and senior executive (ODSE) approvals, simplifying and facilitating the process to lighten the resource burden and ensure smooth compliance.

Company secretary and board support

We can act as your independent company secretary—providing expertise, risk monitoring and a strong board culture of governance excellence in line with the new IFR’s Club Code expectations.

Licensing applications

We can work alongside you, including being primary point of contact with the IFR, to ensure that licensing applications are efficiently and effectively delivered.

External reporting and engagement

The new IFR regime comes with a raft of new reporting requirements and engagement expectations for clubs. We can support you to make regulatory and public disclosures that add strategic value and create deeper, more informative relationships with your fans.

Horizon scanning & gap analysis

Football regulation is at an early stage, and we should expect that the supervisory approach is refined over the coming seasons. We bring together diverse perspectives to help you understand where your short- and medium-term priorities should be. As the IFR’s expectations and requirements evolve, we will be there to help you navigate those future challenges.

  • At Southend United FC, we’ve been proud to partner with Indigo Independent Governance as part of our commitment to stronger, more transparent governance. Their early support was instrumental in establishing our first ever Fan Advisory Board, reviewing our governance structures, and beginning preparations for the likely requirements of a future Independent Football Regulator.
What’s impressed us most is Indigo’s ability to work seamlessly across the boardroom, staff and supporter base — acting as a unifying partner and helping to embed a shared governance culture across the club. We’re proud to recognise them as our inaugural Good Governance Partner.
